hanging
This is the way we roll on sunny afternoons.

today
Today is AWESOME and this is why:
1. I was in bed ASLEEP by 8:15 last night.
2. Sleeping until 7:50 this morning when my services to find a brown shirt for brown day were required by my colour blind husband.
3. It is 18*C for the third day in a row in NOVEMBER!
4. I have three loads of laundry drying outside in NOVEMBER!
5. Bisto (that would be my recently engaged sister for future reference) and I had a long chat on the phone this morning.
6. Being open about my struggle to lose weight so I can feel better about myself.
7. Gas is less than $0.85 a liter for the first time in a gajillion years.
8. Busting our little destructo-bot with a handful of contraband crayons BEFORE he tested them out on the walls!
9. Having supper tonight with my great friend of 32 years.
10. Having a great friend for 32 years when I’m not quite 33.
11. Having a sleepover with my Mom later on tonight.
12. Making time to go for a power walk and feeling super motivated after.
13. Kicking butt on my mighty “to do” list. Speaking of which…
yes we can
Typically I avoid politics. I can’t stand how worked up some people get over certain platforms and issues (death threats… get real). I hate that all too often politics (and politicians) are divisive instead of unifying and inspiring. Unethical, greedy, apathetic… just some of the words that come to mind when I think of politics. Our recent Canadian election was an excellent example of why I have been known to say that I will lock my children in a barrel if they ever aspire to being a politician.
HOWEVER….
Last night was AWESOME! For the first time in my life I found myself wishing I was an American. I wish that I had the opportunity to feel so proud of my country and to be able to vote for hope, for change, for something different and positive. I was crying as I listened to Obama speak. He is not perfect, not is his platform but his MESSAGE is something that I can get behind. His message of unity and hope, of listening and finding common ground, of compromise and positive change. THAT is what I hope for my children and their futures.
Yes we can. I cried again as I listened to the people shouting with tears running down their faces. Who wouldn’t want that to be the hearts cry of their nation? Of their leadership? Of their children? There are too many nay sayers in our world. I am thankful to live in a time when millions of people stood together and kicked history’s butt. Oh, yes we can!

Yesterday while we were playing hookie, my oldest decided to write his first story. Know what? I consider that a day well spent. Sometimes I wish that he could stay home everyday to write stories, read to his siblings and make beautiful art projects. As much as he learns at school, it’s already killing his creativity and that, my friends KILLS me.
The Big Forest
The biggest tree has fallen. The biggest tree is a little boys favourite tree. he has to find a new tree. And at this moment the little boy findid the best tree. The tree was as big as a two layer house. It was too big to climb to the top. The treetop was to the moon.

People, I’ve got to tell you that yesterday was absolutely CRAPTASTIC! That kind of pure grumpiness hasn’t been seen around here since we were in the throws of colic and living on 2 hours of sleep a night. The kids were so miserable that we had them all in bed, read to and kissed by 7:00. I watched Extreme Makeover Home Edition to give myself a little feel good injection and then went straight to sleep.
When 5:15 AM brought big fat baby tears and then 6:30 AM even bigger, sadder older brother tears followed by “I’m going to bug you until we all cry” little sister action at 6:45 AM, I declared today a mental health day. We ditched all the boring stuff like house work and school and hung out in our jammies until noon. We snuggled on the couch, watched cartoons (big treat around here since we have a no tv during the week policy) and played lego for hours. Right now we’ve got homemade bread baking, super comfy shepherd’s pie cooking and a half eaten pan of fudge brownies sitting on the counter. I’m thinking this turned out to be a pretty great day. Here’s to ditching responsibilities and spending the day hanging out with the kids. It reminds me how GREAT it is to be a Mom. Lucky me!

Dear William Willett,
Do you remember that beautiful summer morning you were out walking, wondering why on earth people were sleeping while the sun was up? You know, the day you came up with the idea that eventually led to daylight savings time? I realize you put a lot of time and energy into making your dream a reality so that you could finish a round of golf before dusk (and I’m sorry that it never became a reality for you while you were still alive) but Mr. Willett, I’d like you to know that dst totally BITES when you have kids.
That “extra hour of sleep” is a big fat lie! 5:15 is the new 6:15 and that SUCKS ROCKS.

Waking up at 5:15 makes everyone grumpy and cry A LOT.

As in cry ALL FREAKING DAY LONG, skip naps and then cry some more.

It’s just really too bad that you aren’t available for babysitting cause I need a nap.

Good bye October! You were fun and ended on a high (sugar high that is!) note.

Hello November! I’m going to be kicking it NaBloPoMo style again this year. We’ll see how that goes…
