I can’t wait.

sprouts

December 10th, 2009

The other day when I was grocery shopping with my daughter she spotted a large pile of brussel sprouts and started loudly exclaiming over them. “Mommy! Mommy! Brussel sprouts! You HAVE to buy them. I LOVE brussel sprouts!”. You can imagine the looks her comments drew from some of the other shoppers.

It’s true. Since I’ve started making Heidi’s golden crusted brussel sprout recipe our kids are MAD for them. They BEG me to make them. They FIGHT over them at the table. Last night there were very nearly tears when someone dared to scoop up the last few bites. These brussel sprouts are so good that even my brother in law the caveman just might like them (he’s going to get to try them on Christmas Day, the LUCKY guy!).

Please, do yourself a big favour. Go get a big pile of brussel sprouts at your earliest convenience and give Heidi’s recipe a try. You won’t be disappointed.

P.S. I am a terrible food photographer. Somehow I managed to make the sprouts in the pan look oily. Trust me, they are not! Bear with me while I figure this out.

Signs of a good day:

soon

March 15th, 2009

Today’s breeze brought the hope of spring on it’s breath. Open windows. Shrieking laughter as children fly by on their bikes. Rubber boots. The hum of compressors as winter worn balls and tires are refilled. Ladders creaking open so the last of Christmas lights can be taken down. That familiar smell of burgers on the grill. Jackets and sweaters left in messy piles on the driveway.

Today we moved with the sun. We played in it’s warmth and drank in big gulps of clean air.

Soon. Very soon.

shell

Happy Monday! It’s gonna be a good week… I can tell these things.

This morning brought THREE happy kids. Even our little sicko had a smile on her face so we’re working the happy vibe as much as possible.

Lately I’ve been feeling kind of creative. It must be the colder weather and the fact that CHRISTMAS is coming! I don’t have a lot of time to really lose myself in a project so I’ve been trying to blast out some fast ones. Stuff I can do with a baby hanging off my leg and four extra hands getting in the mix. Saturday I pulled out some shells we collected a year and a half ago (hello backlog!), a deep frame and my glue gun. 10 minutes later we had a framed memory of our White Rock friends and the wicked time we spent with them just before we moved (they are adding TWINS to their family soon so they are on our minds a lot). Now every time I walk into my kitchen I think about GREAT friends, Indian food, the smell of “bathroom” and a lot of laughter. Love you guys!

I only wish I could post how delicious his beautiful, chubby neck smells and the pure, delighted giggles he makes when you nuzzle it!
